hahaha there are the real painters! Tele i could not remember your Screen name for the life of me... and yes a hammer and helmet is always required... i find that a few high lifes also make the job that much better!

my compressor has 4 moisutre catches and 2 regulators... but that is because it is the same one i use for shooting powder... moisture is your ENEMY with powder! any bit can ruin your whole job! so yes i have a bunch and drain them every night!

P.s, Since you don't want "junk" an Iwata set-up will run a little over 400.00, LVLP (Low volume, low pressure) are ideal for what you are planning, they have better transfer efficiency than an HVLP, so you won't get a lot of overspray in your shop, and they have a very low air requirement, they will work fine at 30 psi and 7cfm, in fact they are engineered to operate with excellent atomization within these parameters. We had to switch out all the spray equipment to stay compliant with a certain government agency about a year ago, we use exclusively LVLP's now , and I've been very pleased with finish quality and the 9K we now save in material costs over the course of 12 mos. Good luck.

Also a site folks can help - they have a for sale forum for used guns.
Good luck...

A lot of great info on spray guns. Iwata lvlp are just what the doc ordered for your comp. I use several different guns. You can get by with a cheap primer gun from Harbor freight, but I would use either a Sharp or a Binks. For color you need a good lvlp gun. But do spend some$ on a good clearcoat gun. The Iwata is a great choice. Devillbis is also good. The jam gun as mentioned earlier is very handy. And as far as airbrushs go, Iwata is very good. I use a Iwata Eclisp+ for most everything. Don't forget air filtration in the booth. I convert my garage when I do a job. Build a framework and cover it with painters dropcloths from Home Depot. The ones with paper on one side and plastic on the other. I use furnace filters at on end(3 thick) and 2 exhaust fans(box type) at the other end. Works great. Also get a good air transformer(water trap/filter/regulator) Sharp or devillbis. and use a screwon air filter at the gun. One last thing, get a new air hose for only paint work. you would be surprised how much oil collects on the inside of your old hose.

Good luck

I work with a guy that bought one of those Costcoawning/tent things. He has it set up behind his garage and uses it for a booth. He says he shoots early in the morning when the bugs are sleeping and leaves the parts in it to "cook" during the day. Seemed like a pretty good idea for back yard painting.

On Compressor size :

lets not for get that we are talking about spraying bike parts here guys. CFM plays a large part in painting , and all the info is accurate .And LVLP is a good recomendation for this original question , . But being that with these smaller items, you are off the trigger more than on, recovery is rarely a problem,.. Now If we were talking about doing a complete on a car ,truck, van or bus. or running an air buffer, DA sander for long periods of time Then we have to worry a bit more. As another poster mentioned above, Tank size is a big role . The larger the tank, the longer you can spray before the compressor has to kick on.If all you are spraying is a tank , or a pair of fenders. you may not even hear the compressor kick on till you are on your second or 3rd coat.
