Yup, I reached that conclusion a couple weeks ago. I was fortunate to find a brand new HD engine guard on e-bay for Dynas with floorboards, since the ones made to fit my bike won't work with them. As soon as all this snow melts, I'll be installing it.

Got the HD one.
I can tell you they hold up well and saved my butt.

Hit a deer doing 60 mph and the guard only bent back 1" or so when the body hit my foot which was on the highway peg mounted to the guard.
Didn't lay the bike down either, just came away with a sprained ankle.

Yes I got a new guard.

I got mine when my kids almost knocked my bike over in the garage.

Default Just waiting for warmer weather.

Morning. My last bike was a 07 XL1200L (Sporster) and the engine had a habbit of dying when cold, especially when I was rounding corners, which left me in a lean with over 700 lbs of bike. Needless to say it went down a couple of times but a very low speeds . When I bought the bike one of the sales people at the local Harley Dealership had mentioned how much protection a enigne guard was so I had it put on first thing and boy did that guard pay for itself. I have seen several videos of accidents where the rider was protected by his engine guard. I have stayed with the stock Harley Guard because of its shape. While Lindby's guard looks cool, I have a problem with the pointed side on their guard that may catch on the road or shoulder of the road if you go down causing more problems. When I traded my 07 Sporster in on a 08 Fat Bob the first thing I added was a stock Halrey Engine Guard. Though I have not had to use it yet(knock on wood) it's like an insurance policy, there if I really need it!!! Anyway, Stay safe and keep the rubber down .... ;-)

Man those look great could you please send me the part # as I'm a novice and don't yet have a Harley parts catalog.

They won't fit your bike unless you've got the FXDP floorboards installed (look closely at the picture). The part # is 49218-01, but they are no longer available from Harley.
