Default Road Kings with Engine Guard Removed

OK - I'm in love with my bike except for one thing that keeps catching my eye in a bad way.... The engine guard from certain angles just looks wrong... Like a big ugly, disproportionate afterthought stuck on there. I don't use it for anything really (no lowers, rarely use the highway pegs...) so Im thinking of pulling it off but before I do I wouldn't mind seeing any pics you guys might have of your RK's with the guard removed.... Thanks in advance (and yes I know the thing serves a purpose and there's a pretty good chance I'll regret removing it...)

Ok, lunch time today I was at the local greasy spoon moving my RK into a parking space when the bike started to go over on the left side. I just couldn't catch it and in slow motion it landed on the crash bars. As I started to lift it, a couple of other guys came over and helped me lift it up. This is the first time that this has ever happened to me. Thanked the guys, looked the bike over and not one scratch. You sure you want to take those bars off?

I saw an Ultra Classic with the engine guard off. It really looked pretty good. However, I wouldn't take it off. Where would I mount my highway pegs? Just my opinion.

Leave it on, if the looks bug you that much, think about switching to the "Mustache" style engine guard.

If you ever drop the bike, or are in an accident, you'll be glad it's there.

Guard looks easy enough to take off. Then you will know better as to how you like the look.

No reason to over think this thing.

I've toyed with the idea myself but like most here, I like my highway pegs and I also don't want to regret it after a parking lot tip over.

LOL - should have figured all I'd get is people giving me reasons not to do it! Like I said; i know all the rational, objective reasons to leave the thing on there... Im just wanting to see what it'll look like..... Oh well; its just three bolts - i guess I'll yank it off and see for myself. I'll put some pics up when I get around to it.

By looking at the pic I posted, I wonder if just the bag guard would be enough to hold the bike up without much damage? Hmmm...

Perhaps it would look more 'stealth' if you painted it flat black?
