I have purchased an 09 street bob in oct and havnt gotten a chance to ride since the security (key) light on the guage stays on while I am riding I do not have a security system on the bike is this the norm I called the dealer and they said that is fine I was just wondering if anyone else with a street bob has this light on while riding. Just dosent seem like this should be lit while riding.
I would check to see if all your blinkers are lit, I know when i switched to leds, the security light went on becasue leds use less voltage and i was told that was why the sercurity light went on...if you had a bulb out, that would be less votlage being used also...worth a check...

well, I have 09 street bob and the security light remains off while Iam riding. But I have a security system and it run only when I switch off the bike for 5 sec. then goes off.
if both front and rear turn signal bulbs aren't lighting up when you have the signal on the security light will come on solid until you start up the bike again. At that point since it had been triggered it will set a code in the computer and when you start up your bike the light will come on for about 30 seconds after start up and turn off but if the problem isn't corrected and you hit the blinker it will come on solid again. Check the bulbs and also check the wiring at the rear signals, if the wiring isn't clipped in right the tire will rubb through and cut the wires and cause the same problem.
I've had issue's with mine since i put in LED bulbs and then i put in a aftermarket load equilizer to solve the problem and went away, and just recently had the problem again due to a bad connection on the module and fixed that and i'm good to go again.
My security light was in the habit of coming on about 4 sec. after the engine cranked and being somewhat erratic. The cause was, the light lets you know one or more of the areas monitored has "thrown" a code. Use your manual to show how to clear the code and everything should go back to normal unless the code keeps coming up.
Thanks allot fellas I am going to check the manual after work to see about clearing the codes and the wireing to the signals (they all come on I checked that tonight but could be a loose wire.
I have another question if I may.
Where is the handle bar control switches wire harness at I have another set of bars and crome switches to install but do not want to tear in before I have a good idea where it is(dont want to bite of more than I can chew)
Thanks again for the help
The security key light is a warning of a code being thrown that is specific to the electrical system. If I’m not mistaken. Just like the engine light means you’re throwing a code for something wrong with the motor.
Find one of the threads on how to check your codes and read them to see what’s up.
If you have a way, jack up the bike and check the wiring under the rear fender.
If you've bottomed out the bike, which most of us have, the wiring to the signals gets a little too close to the tire.
To be sure, just check your signals. If the flasher is blinking fast, then you need to find out which light isnt working. Then go chasing wires.
I had the same problem 2 weeks after I bought my 08. The signal wires on the right rear werent tucked in the clip, and got hammered by the tire. A relocation kit fixed that problem once and for all.
