That sucks about your loss. I lived in a high crime area in Corpus Christ, TX for a while and my buddies truck was broken into the weekend we moved in. It truely is amazing how fast someone can steal a bike or car. My solution was to install an aftermarket remote paging alarm. This thing had a proximity sensor so that if anyone even stood too close to my bike for a few seconds it would warn them away and then fully activate if they moved the bike or continued to loiter. My apartment was about 250m from the lot and when the alarm was activated the key fob would flash and make noise. More than once I ran outside with my shotgun or pistol at the low ready. While some states do not allow the use of deadly force for protection of property, you never know what weapons the criminal element may have with them. We would also use a high quality chain lock to lock our two bikes together so that it was harder to just lift one into a truck and take off. The other thing I looked into before I moved was the hooks that install into the concrete that you then chain the bike to. Not al that expensive and if you park it at home you can easily install that there. Unfortunatley the only help most police departments can offer is to take a report so you can send in your insurance claim.
