I just came back from the Tail o the Dragon. 318 curves in 11 miles. Dyna has to be the best HD for this ride. See pics on www.Killboy.com - Go to store, March 8, continue, cruisers, pages 25 (last one) and the first few of page 26... or to

New tires, FXDX shocks in the back, and V-Rod fork internals make a big difference for handling.
I will need new pegs, again.
Cool pics of you and your ride! Sure are close to dragging the front controls, these bikes just are not ment to lean too far over are they. What is the length of the FXDX shock?

about a 2 hour drive for me.. Mabee we could get a group together and run up there sometime..
That's one ride I'm doing this year without fail and would definitely be into it. I live just south of Rockingham, across the border in SC. It's 2 hrs to charlotte so I know I'd have a heck of a ride to get there. Count me in though.
I rode it a week ago last Friday...It was covered with road salt from a snow the previous Monday and it was VERY slick. Still it was fun riding that and the Foothills parkway. We had planned to ride the Cherohala Skyway but it was way too cold. There was still snow up there.
All suspension is stock on my 07 FXDB,plus I weigh about 250...I have dragged everything there is to drag on the Dragon...actually wore a hole in my stock pipes.....I live a leisurely hours ride from there and have ridden it more times than I remember...
I'll have to vouch for the Sportster on the Dragon's Tail!! In 2006, I took my '04 Sporty on the Tail and all the surrounding areas. Lighter, different seating position, midset pegs, dare I say, "nimble"? Anyway, I rode with a cousin who was on a Softail Custom and I still don't know how he made it. I almost never saw him (rear view mirror, that is) and he told me it was far more work for him than it was fun.
In fairness, this photo shows the weather when I took my SuperGlide on the Tail in 2007. We came from the Tennessee side, and actually had to stop halfway through to put on our raingear. So we really had to putt around the thing.
I'll be going again this August, but it'll probably be on the Sporty. That may be it's last hurrah as far as road trips go.
