OK some of you probably read my last post about having an Ignition Module problem. Well it was great for a couple days. Then last night when I cam to work I locked my Ignition Switch in Aux and it ran my battery down and I had to jump it this morning. Well it ran great. Then it didn't want to start to come to work so I roll started down my street and it fired no problem and ran to work great.
Then I stopped for some food on the way in and it didn't want to start again, it turns over and seems like it has enough kick but it just kind of back fires and "Pluuuughsss" a bunch. And now I just went out to give it a try and same thing. It almost seems like maybe it needs more power to turn it over. Is that possible? That it will crank but not have quite enough to kick it? This morning it was turning over but wouldn't go... as soon as I put the cables on it and hit it it fired right up.
I'm confused, bummed and pissed... Don't know what to think. When its running its simply awesome, but I'm having a hell-of-a time getting it to start.
It takes awhile to charge a battery. You don't say how far to work, but if it's 15-30 minutes it may not be enough to recharge it. Stick it on a battery tender overnight and see how it does.
Not sure if this will help but give it a shot. I put in a PCV and noticed the bike took longer to start. I called Jamie at Fuel moto and he asked me if i wait for the check engine light to go out before i attempt to start. I answered yes , He said DONT the delay causes the module to shut off. Anyways now i turn on the ignition, then hit the run button, then hit the starter button 1-2-3. The bike fires right up with no delay.
Bike starts in 1 second as opposed to 5-6. If you batt is a little weak it could make a difference....also check your batt voltage with a meter if you have one. check before and after you try to start it......See if its dropping out on ya
Yeah I just went out and tried it again, its turning over and not lugging but just doesn't seem to have quite enough juice to crank it. I really don't remember if it turned faster before or not. But I do do the same thing I wait for the little engine to go out before I turn it over.
So does most agree that it can turn over fairly well and just not have quite enough?
Oh and yeah its only about 25 min to and from work.
OK went out and put a multi-meter on it. It was at 12v even at first and dropped to 9v trying to crank it and only recovered to 10.8 and it went down pretty fast from there. So we tried to jump it, wont start there either. Tried to push start it and that was a no go as well.
I'm at a total loss now. Ran great for a couple days after putting the module in and now seems the same as before I put that in. I really do think that the problem has a bit to do with the battery but when we tried jumping it, it cranked plenty fast but didn't even sputter.
If I had the cash I'd just take it to Harley and say "fix it" but I don't. I'm almost at the point where I could have in the first place...lol. I'm kind of wondering though... if maybe its a "this led to that" kind of thing???
By the way while tring to jump it it turns much faster than it was just on the battery.
Sorry i responded thinking you had a new bike. IMO you need a new batt for starters then check if you have spark. Ignition modules will not work without 12volts or better.
Since it wouldnt start when you tryed to jump it, im thinking your module may have went belly up. Check for spark, go from there.

Thanks to all...
sounds like you need a new battery, i did the same and had to buy a new one...130bucks...

Yeah I just replaced the module 2 days ago, rode it to work and locked it in the AUX position and ran the battery down.
You know I was thinking about the trying to jump it part also. I have tried to jump plenty of cars before that wouldn't start jumping, put a new battery in it and varooom.
I am going to start there however and hope I didn't bake the module I just put in, it was the fully adjustable one for carb twins... not cheap at all.
