.
g...., I like the 2", haven't used the 1".
I did a write up a couple years ago on my technique (link below).
It is a series of pages.
I am going to put this in the HDFDyna Room as well.
Let me know if this helps,
ask if you want more info.......
More than a few folks have asked about my pipe wrapping technique,
so I am putting this link (above) here.
The link leads to a series of pages.

A couple of details that may or may not matter, can you wrap the pipe from the rear to the front so the overlaps are facing rearward, so they aren't acting like mini air scoops and catching all that road grime and / or fraying in the wind. Can some kind of marker be used to draw a line down the wrap to use as a guide when wrapping?

WS, two really good questions.......
you certainly can wrap back to front, and strap at the top end.
I like the clamp exposed for the industrial look (if you use a tech clamp).
After all the wrap is for looks only.
for example to hide a blemish such as a small dent,
and, as to the grime collection,
looks again....... wrapped pipes are all about grime.
the marker... yeah, but then you need to get it off,
and it's not all that hard to eyeball the overlap.
