After installing a stage 1 upgrade including a PCV, I noticed my engine would turn over more times before starting than before the PCV. I discussed this with Keith at Fuelmoto and he advised that I not wait for the fuel pump to stop its "hum" before hitting the start button. I can't recount the explanation he gave me, but it works. If you hit the start button right away after turning on the switch, there is no delay (extra cranking). I had been in the habit of waiting for the fuel pump noise to subside before hitting the start button.
I don't recall seeing this in any of the literature, so I thought I'd pass it on to those who might experience what I did. Probably old news to some of you.
The Power Commander is powered off of the front injector. That is why you shouldn't wait for the fuel pump to cut off. I also crank mine with the light on.
Yep, I've been doing this since I put my PC III on and read about that trick on this forum about a year ago.
And if anyone tells you that you should be waiting till the little engine light goes out before trying to start it, just laugh at them and walk away.
I just got done installing my pc5 on my street bob, I listened to the guys and didnt wait for the fuel pump to kick off, i heard the fuel pump hit the start button 1 turn of it and the bike starts right up no problems at all..Seems to work very well for me, and it is 30some degrees and the bike started right up
Yup, just put on a PCV on my Iron, I had the habit of waiting too and was annoyed with the extra cranking. Rang Dynojet, and they explained the starting system was the same as in some car (Ford I think) and I that case there is no waiting when the key turns. They said there is absolutely no problem hitting start the minute the engine primes.
I just hit the starter the minute the jets kick in happy days
