This was addressed in a thread about a week ago, but I've not heard back from anyone.
Question: To go from a stock Air Cleaner on an 07 FXDC to a round air cleaner, can I just buy a round backing plate and put on a round filter? I'm interested in aesthetics only here, so the Stage 1 Screaming Eagle is not important.
If I can just refit a round plate and filter, where can I find the backing plate. I saw a chrome one on HD for $50, but I'm looking for something easier on the wallet.
Theres not much to a Stage one Kit.....some gaskets, a filter, and a backing plate....Check the classifieds on this forum you can find the whole kit for 60 or so at times.....I can give you the anodized backing plate that comes with a stage one kit....pm your address to me

If you think 50 bucks is hard on your wallet you might wanna sell the Harley
If you have a black engine, just buy the aluminum one, paint with heat resistant flat black, i.e. bbq grill paint and it will do you good. If you can find a S/E air filter for $50 go for it.
Thanks for the information, guys. Sounds like I can easily do the Stage 1 kit install myself. This would mean I have to get the EFI recalibrated, right? How much does this cost?
Naz, I know 50 isn't much considering. I just blew a bunch of money on a king size bed and got some Rush Slip-ons, so I'm looking for cheaper modifications at the moment. I may just wait a month, and then it won't be a big deal. Plus, I like the improvisations I see on this site, so I was just wondering if there was a cheap way around this common issue.

Cadore, thanks for the offer, but I think I need to be sure of what I'm doing before I start collecting parts. I'm really new to all this.
Thanks again!
Toypuller,
Thanks for the price estimate. I was on the HD site and couldn't find any price estimates. I know they wouldn't want to set a price due to the different mechanics out there charging differently, but a roundabout number would be nice. Now I know what I'm looking at as far as costs, and this project will definitely have to wait a month or so .

The install involves all the same steps as changing the backing plate plus the addition of the EFI manifold cover and 2 gaskets.
Once I did mine I thought the EFI mainifold looked like crap without the cover. But that is just my humble opinion.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Harley, where a project seems easy until you start it.
For a true stage one you will need to recalibrate. Around $150.00 +/-
