It is hard to come by quality customer service nowadays, especially on the phone and such. that is one thing about this industry that really bothers me. It's all about the money, it's about making the customer happy. If you make the customer happy, the money will follow and flow. Too many people forget about this aspect of business.
I don't think you get the same hassles when you buy the exchanges. You pay upfront and as soon as (supposedly) they receive your stock wheels, they ship the chromed exchanges to you. But they didn't have my wheels in stock when I called and offered to chrome my actual wheels cheaper than I could have bought exchanges for anyway. I thought it was a cool deal at first but things don't always end up like they should.
The ebay ad requests a core deposit upfront. Then they'll ship the new wheels and return the deposit when they get yours. That would work well as it means no down time. But still a bit risky as they have your $$$ before you ever see the wheels, but that'd be hard to avoid in any case unless you lived nearby.
I was seriously thinking about exchanging chrome wheels from Chrome Pros for my '08 FXD this winter, but after reading the above postings I don't think I will. My other option was to purchase chrome wheels through Harley, as they now offer OEM FXD wheels that are chromed. Of course, they're more expensive then Chrome Pros, but I now have more faith in H-D then I now do with Chrome Pros. My dealer offers a 20/20 sale every November (20% discount on accessories and 20% discount on labor/installation). After the discounts I expect to pay just a little more, however without the hassle of dealing with BS and aggravation of blemished/pitted parts and/or price discrepancies.
