seriously sharpy that is garbage! get your self some VHT brand high temp paint in satin black from jp cycles i got a pretty good scratch on my black vance and hines short shot staggerds i took the sheilds off sanded them with 600 grit sand papper tack clothes them after washing them. after all that tape off the V&H emblem with masking tape paint in thin layer several coats and let the paint cure it is a perfect color match to the old and holds up well.

When I work on mine you gotta have the mindset of operating on a patient..it's not as hard to screw something up as you'd think (or you found out). Paint chips and chrome scratches. Great lesson though. There's some seriously talented technical guys here...unfortunately I'm not one of them. Good luck and belated welcome to the forum!

ive used the sharpie trick on my motherwell, works pretty good for light, barely noticable scratches. but if you want a more perminate fix, then paint or powder is your best bet. i bought these large microfiber towels that are nice and thick, could use a think blanket or comforter. when ever i work on my bike, i drape the towels over every part of the bike i can.

contact V&H and tell them that it was scratched when you opened it. I got mine last summer when they came out, one was scratched all to hell out of the box, I called them and they sent me replacement pieces and I got to keep the old one just for emergencies.

I have a small little gouge on my dash that reminds me to cover painted and finished surfaces around the area I'm working on.

Like all the others said, High temp paint.

Default Update

UPDATE: I followed the advice of Mark0763 and the rest. I sanded the area down and used VHT flat black. It looks much better. The area basically looks like the pipes look after they have been on for a while and I have asked a few guys and no one can really tell. THANK YOU all for your input. It is much appreciated.
