Default Starting your Dyna? Clutch engaged or disengaged

Just curious. When in neutral with green light on, I have read where some people have theirs engaged and some don't.

I squeeze it when I start, even with a green light, just habit.

Nearly always have it in "N", and always have the clutch in just in case. Some times find out that it isn't in "N". When it is in gear (even with the clutch pulled) the bike seems to pull a bit when I start it. No issues though, don't think it matters which way you do it.

Default Clutch

I was under the impression that the newer bikes had to have the clutch lever engaged in order to make the bike start. Mine is an 06 and will start regardless. Maybe I'm wrong....Anybody ?

Harley's have no safety disengage do they? If you have it in gear and hit the starter without the clutch, it'll leap forward won't it?

I put it in N and fire, no clutch.

"N" = start
"gear" = no start
"gear" + clutch = start

There's a reason for that little switch under your clutch handle on the newer bikes.
