Default Timing cover

Has anyone installed the HD Dark Custom Timing Cover on a FATBOB?
Upon trying to do this EASY install, I have found that the 5 stock screws are too short. I am figuring a visit to Hardware store for something a little longer.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Haven't had any,but if you get new bolts make sure you get ones that don't rust!

I've got the Dark Custom on my Fat Bob.
Didn't have any problems at all with the stock fasteners.

Sorry you are having trouble. The easy stuff has stumped me temporarily more than once. The screws should fit. I looked at the service manual and a couple of dealer web sites, the dark covers come without screws, so you would think the originals should fit. Have you compared the old cover and the new one? Their appears to be no gasket, which makes sense as nothing is behind there, its a purely cosmetic cover. I did find this post dealing with Willie G skull covers that says it is a different screw:

For anyone putting on the Willie G. Skull Collection accessories, both the stock and after market derby cover are a T27 torx (don't use a T25) and the stock timing cover is T20 but the replacement was T15.

You might try spraying some air in all the screw holes and then some WD 40. Otherwise put the old cover back on and see if an Indy or dealer can help you.

Thats a good one I installed a skull cover which came with new bolts, Once I tightened all the bolts the cover was loose? had to install origanal bolts as they were shorter than the new ones, why would that be?

Thanks for replys guys. I went to the dealer today and they were aware of the same problem with previous customers that had purchased the dark custom timing cover.
You are right, they (screw) don't come with the cover. However, they dealer came out with the CHROME timing screws and they were definately a tad bit longer then the stock. Brought them home and it fits like a glove, suddenly became the 2 minute install I thought it would be.
I think it is just another way for HD to add to the price tag and make a little cash. Didn't really want the CHROME but, you can hardly notice the difference of "DARK CUSTOM".
Just finished a big weekend of installs. PCV, Heavy Breather, Wrinkle black primary, sissy bar/backrest, and new sundowner seat(to make the wife ) New Pipes hopefully by mid summer!

Default Sundowner seat

Nice seat, I put one on mine last year. I had to cut some clear bicycle handle bar grips to put them between the seat and the sidemount uprights to keep them from rubbing the seat. A little cheesy, but hard to see unless you get up close. Did you have the same problem?
