Another total newb question. And sorry in advance because I honestly didn't bother to do a search this time to find an answer. Heres the question....Is it practical to constantly be switching from a 2-up seat to a solo seat and vice versa? I recently jumped on a solo seat someone was selling because it was a great deal and because I'm trying to create an "alter ego" for my ride. The thought was that I'd 75% of the time have the solo on for around town driving and the other 25% of the time throw on the two-up for lil trips this way i could thrown on the detachable backrest/rack and various bags I have. So when I take off the 2-up yesterday....i notice theres black foam thingies on the fender to help protect it when the 2-up seat is on. I just wanted to get everyones take on how practical it is to constantly be applying and removing those black foam things and to get there technical name as well, lol. As well as the name of the part I'm looking for that attaches to the fender so I can screw a solo seat on. Will I have to remove the rear tire to get that part on? A how to would be nice, lol. Thanks guys.....and the dumb questions will soon be fewer and further between.....the service manual is on its way.
Wrongturn
I have a Mustang seat and it takes 3 mins to take off the passenger pillion. The rear of the front seat mount has a tab that the rear seat slide onto.
To get the seat nut feed a wire tie form the through the seat nut and then run it into the hole in the fender from underneath. Then secure it with the clip and remove the wire tie.
As far as the foam pads buy some new ones and put them on the seat instead of the fender.
11576 is the cushion numbers
Ditto... I also lined the underside of the seat (if an HD seat with bare leather on the bottom) with microfiber. Can even use double faced tape to adhere it to the bottom of the passenger part of the seat. Just to protect the fender..
When in "solo mode" I just put a spike license plate bolt in the rear seat nut hole for cosmetic purposes (looks better than the brass ring/hole)

i have a screw on the back of mine so i can swap seats in no time... i have a spike that i treaded a bolt stud on with a rubber washer that i screw into the back seat dock while i am running solo... when i go 2 up i just unscrew and pop in the new one...
I do it all the time as well. I did a how-to on my web site about how I do it on my WG. If anyone's interested it is under Harley Stuff on the How-to page.
I've been thinking about installing some stainless fender protection strips, so I don't have to worry about those little rubber cushions. The strips are about the same thickness as the cushions, so I *think* with proper placement, they will work. I think I'll do some clay-press tests to make sure though.
