At first when I heard about the demise of the Low Rider I was in denial but perhaps it's time. I think they've taken it about as far as they can. Some of the other dyna models are definetely more exciting.
I no the LOW RIDERS cost more to buy , and as soon as they drop the line .If they do ,
Our current Low Riders will go up in value ,
Just think abought it , if it cant be replaced its worth a hole lot more ..
Dont get me wrong , I like the Bobs but there are so many around its kinda like when the camero came out in 69 , All you see at the track was 69 cameros ...
Very nice , but gets a little old....
It was enjoyable reading all of your heartfelt points of view. A number of you are quite close to the edge. You know who you are.
It would be a shame to lose the Low Rider model, which has been with us since 1977. Who hasn't heard the name? That year, it came with two front discs and flat bars, more rakish forks, cast alloy wheels, black crackle finished barrels with polished highlights on the cooling fins and fat bob tanks that you had to fill on both sides. It also had the king & queen style seat, which sat the operator lower than the passenger and foot pegs that were mounted slightly forward. It was a glorious machine. Fast forward through FXRs and Dynas, and the differences between the Low Rider and the other models in its family have been minimized. No matter which Dyna you buy, you can change it up to get whatever you wanted from any other Dyna model relatively easier, they're all basically the same bike. What's in a name when they all smell like roses?
The Low Rider had a good run, and like any other great "brand" name, can be brought back at any time. Speaking of that, isn't it about time that H-D brought back a fat front tired springer model? You should know I'm thinking Softtail, although I did see a pic of a cool Dyna with a springer front end on this forum somewhere. As far as Dyna's go, the sky's the limit. I'd like to see a real performance oriented Dyna that makes 100+ horsepower, has performance forks, wheels, and dual front perimeter style discs, a tach, performance shocks, sport tires, and high clearance pegs and exhaust. Essentially what I'm asking for is the big twin equivalent of an XR 1200, with Dyna style. You know you'd buy one...
I think the square battery box vs. the shape of the flowing of oiltanks and the limited custom options for the rectangular, boxy look of the swing arm has killed the dyna. IMO - 90 degree angles (from the side) just don't look good on motorcycles.
I think its a mistake but the MOCO has to trim down the offerings. It will come back in a few years in a different flavor. I don't think they will add a diffrent Dyna model at this time. If they do it will not be a more expensive model but one that follows their "Black out theme" geared to younger buyers.
