It was enjoyable reading all of your heartfelt points of view. A number of you are quite close to the edge. You know who you are.
It would be a shame to lose the Low Rider model, which has been with us since 1977. Who hasn't heard the name? That year, it came with two front discs and flat bars, more rakish forks, cast alloy wheels, black crackle finished barrels with polished highlights on the cooling fins and fat bob tanks that you had to fill on both sides. It also had the king & queen style seat, which sat the operator lower than the passenger and foot pegs that were mounted slightly forward. It was a glorious machine. Fast forward through FXRs and Dynas, and the differences between the Low Rider and the other models in its family have been minimized. No matter which Dyna you buy, you can change it up to get whatever you wanted from any other Dyna model relatively easier, they're all basically the same bike. What's in a name when they all smell like roses?
The Low Rider had a good run, and like any other great "brand" name, can be brought back at any time. Speaking of that, isn't it about time that H-D brought back a fat front tired springer model? You should know I'm thinking Softtail, although I did see a pic of a cool Dyna with a springer front end on this forum somewhere. As far as Dyna's go, the sky's the limit. I'd like to see a real performance oriented Dyna that makes 100+ horsepower, has performance forks, wheels, and dual front perimeter style discs, a tach, performance shocks, sport tires, and high clearance pegs and exhaust. Essentially what I'm asking for is the big twin equivalent of an XR 1200, with Dyna style. You know you'd buy one...
Well, they do offer that, as the SE model, but you're gonna have to have alot of money to buy one....
I can't believe the FXD is still around, personally. As I've said before, I like the silver motor, but most "claim" to hate it.
I no the LOW RIDERS cost more to buy , and as soon as they drop the line .If they do ,
Our current Low Riders will go up in value ,
Just think abought it , if it cant be replaced its worth a hole lot more ..
Dont get me wrong , I like the Bobs but there are so many around its kinda like when the camero came out in 69 , All you see at the track was 69 cameros ...
Very nice , but gets a little old....
camaro came out in 1967, and it will never get old

Where is the info. that says H-D is discontinuing the lowrider?
I was just at the Harley Dealer yesterday and a salesman confirmed that Harley will indeed discontinue the Lowrider...2009 is its last year...for now anyhow.
The dealers learn what is discontinued when they begin to order for the 2010 model year. The Lowrider, Road Glide, and Electra Glide standard have all been discontinued. The dealer show is in July so that is when we will find out what the replacements are if anything. The only thing that throws me is the Road Glide as there is a CVO in the 09 lineup and CVO's generally run for at least 2 years. That said the Road Glide will probably be around as a CVO model at least.
The CVO Road Glide will not be renewed for 2010. (SHOCKER)
The Low Rider was cut because no-one was buying it. When the demand weans the dealer network stops ordering them and then Harley cancels the bike. THe Dyna Custom is the prime dyna now. All that chrome at 13K. lower the bike and you still save $1500 off the Low Rider.
Wait until you find out the Nighttrain is being cut also... oops!
