Default True Track or not...

I need some advice. I'm trying to decide whether or not to drop close to $500 (includes installation) on True Track for my 09 SB. I've been riding for about 20 years but this is my first HD. I've had it since November and I've been riding it at least weekly (in Georgia) since then, so I'm pretty familiar with it now. My last bike was a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 (weighed about 150 lbs more than the SB). I've never had any problems with curves at speed until about a week ago. I'm not noticing any back-end vibration on the tighter curves, just less stability.

So my question for those of you that got True Track is: How did you know that you needed it? And my question for anybody who thought about it and looked into the True Track but didn't buy it is: Why not?

Much appreciated.

Jim

Jim,

With a newer scoot it really comes down to how you ride. If you like to push it, and accelerate hard out of the corners True Track is worth it's weight in gold (thou I'd re-think having it installed, with a little patience it's not that difficult). As it has been said before - it's like riding on rails. In fact, I find myself having to keep from over-steering when running curves 25MPH over the posted speed. Most curves I'm confident at 30 over.

If you prefer to ride like a geezer (no offense intended) you likely won't notice much difference, that is, until the rear fork bushings and motor-mounts start to age. Then you'll likely notice a difference at slower speeds. If you can't justify the expense - ride slower!

Good luck,
Jeff

A true track is on my list but closer to the bottom. It seems that people who have more miles on have better results with the true track, probably because the motor mount has started to wear out.

I'm assuming this is the reason why I haven't noticed much difference. I went out and was pushing it today hard, didn't feel any difference than before.

Note however, that I didnt experience the wobble before either, I was just assuming with all these rave reviews, I was missing something.

I recieved mine today and cant wait to get it installed. I think it will be worth it along with my ricor inserts for the front forks and progressive 412 rear shocks. I will be posting my thoughts on how it handles as soon as i get it installed. I should get it done sat if i can find the time.

I only put the front on my FXDF with 2000k miles on it and noticed a big difference. No more wobble in the rear while going through turns. Save yourself the coin and put it on yourself. I am not the handiest of folk and it only took me about 30 mins. Just make sure you support your engine, I had it drop a bit.

Do you really think a company as big as HD is going to sell a bike that's unsafe to ride? Personally I would NOT spend the money, but that's me.

There are a lot of people on here who have bought one and swear it helps. I'm not going to bash them because if it makes them feel better or safer, more power to them.

But when all this talk about the true track came out, I searched the internet for infor about accidents caused from HD's design or lack of a true track. Can't find anything, so..........

I say do you you want and feel confortable with.

For those who just want to install the front stabilizer (like me) you may want to consider the Sputhe Positrac. Sputhe will sell you just the front stabilizer for $180 plus shipping.

If you are pushing the bike in curves and noticing some wallow then I would get one. Eric Buell patented the design of a suspension like a true track set up many years ago. Why HD does not incorporate it is baffling to many.

I will do mine eventually. When I have the budget for it. It is not a high priority item but a nice modification.

I was torn as well, and I started a similar thread. For me, it came down to what direction you're going with your bike. Some are slamming theirs, chopping them, raking out the front, putting huge tires on the rear, etc. But, for me, I've been determined to make my Dyna handle as good as possible. Adding the True Track was pretty much a no-brainer, and when one popped up used, I jumped on it. Glad I did, it's proven to be worthwhile for me. I'll never get rid of it, that's for sure.
