just got my thunderheader in the mail its used and the sent me pipe all assembled does any one have any pics of how it is mounted to the bike i dont have any instructions or anything and im not sure if i have everything i need to out this thing on?
They didn't send you the blue sheet with the pipe diagram and uber-simplistic instructions?
You should have the pipe, the black mounting bracket, upper header clamp (mounts just before the collector) and a couple bolts/nuts.
It's a fairly straight-forward install....easier to visualize than it is to actually do. A 2nd hand is gold with this install. By holding the mounting bracket up to the right side of the bike, you can tell where the holes bolt up....be aware that you have to fiddle with the clutch cover, so be prepared to drain or catch that fluid.
Once the bracket is on, it's a case of adding new header gaskets...then the pipe goes on....front header first, then rear...loosely put the header bolts on, then bolt the rear of the pipe to the bracket...all loosely. Then you can tighten everything down, along with adding the header clamp. I don't think I've missed anything, and their directions really aren't a whole lot better than what I'm recounting from memory.
Thinking now I should've kept my old directions for record, but I chucked em.
Ok, I have the stock Harley black mounting bracket & pipe. I dont have a thunderheader mounting bracket-do i need that for this to work? Also, doesnt the pipe mount to a bracket by the swing arm?
That is the Thunderheader bracket in that first pic. You can get to the front bolt by unthreading your clutch cable. Just be carefull putting it back in. I buggered mine up and now I need a new cable and cover. The rest is eeeaaaasy.
I have to add one thing about that bracket though. It probably wont hurt because Im sure most people don’t do this but I drilled the rear hole that mounts to the tranny out to the size as the same hole on the stock bracket. That hole mounts to a stud that has a hex head against the cases. The hole in the mount needs to fit over that hex head for the mount to fully seat.
Also, one more thing. If that is your bike in those pics, then that isn’t the stock Harley mount and pipes. You need to take both of those off to install the Thunderheader. When you get those off, it should be clear where everything goes.
