Looking for some guidance here. I purchased a new '09 Superglide and according to the paperwork they provided me I will void the 2 yr warranty if I change out the exhaust. Anyone hear of this? The only option it seems I have is to switch to Screamin' Eagle (HD of course). I was considering Bub's Jug Huggers or V&H Short shots. Looking for a little more in the mid range and a little more sound.
I guess my only options may be to put a set of SE slip-ons on until the 2 yr warranty is up and then switch out for what I really want.
as with any warranty, they can't void it unless the failure in question is a direct result of the aftermarket parts installed. Like if you installed exhaust and your directionals quit working etc...
From what I have heard, they can not void the entire warranty. For example: If you rewired a new set of handlebars and fried the system the would not cover it, but would still cover a transmission problem. I don't know if it make sense but.....
I agree with the previous posts. My dealer will order and install any exhaust you want.
The Bub exhausts are excellent, had the jug huggers on a previous bike.
I just ordered some Rinehart's and will be doing the stage 1 when they arrive.
Exactly what was written in this "paper work"?
Can you quote it here, so everyone can read it?
If you change your exhaust system, then of course HD is not going to do any warranty work on the exhaust system.
BUT, it will have no effect on the rest of the parts covered in the factory warranty. That would be illegal.
Guys,
Thanks for the info I thought it sounded sketchy at best. I will find the paperwork they provided me and post it as stated so everyone can see it. Thanks for the input. Now let me ask, how hard is a new exhaust to put on with the 2 o2 sensors. I don't want to pay the dealer for work that I can do. I have some basic mechanic skills and plenty of tools.
Just for kicks, contact your dealer. Tell them you want to find out how much they want to install new exhaust, remap, and a/c on the 09 FXD you just purchased from them. See if they tell you they won't take you money because it will void the warranty.
To answer your question, the exhaust is pretty straight forward to install. The 02 sensors unplug, then unscrew from your stock exhaust. Follow the install instructions closely.
Are you also planning new air cleaner and a fuel management unit or download?
Thanks,
I'm sure they won't turn my money away. I was thinking of either new pipes or slip-ons and a remapping. What do you think would be best? I am looking to get some real performance in the mid-range.
