Fat Boy Rider at Work Today

J/K
Not everyone that has a Harley knows their bikes. I remember I was in a dealership once checking out a Wide Glide they had on the floor. This older guy walks up to me and says those Dyna's are nice, but I bought a Softail because I wanted a smooth riding bike. I didn't have the heart to tell him that just because his bike was called a "softtail", it didn't mean it was the smoothest riding Harley. In fact I bet that stock Wide Glide rode smoother than his Softail Custom sitting outside.
- "yeah, but it's kind of on the low end of the big ones".
If he was talking about the H-D pricing scheme, he wasn't off the mark, look at what the entry point is for Softail and Touring models is ... you cannot buy the 'bottom of the line' of either of those two families for the price of the basic FXDI ...
It's easy to let the emotion and personal 'investment' in your bike allow you to view other's comments and get defensive ... you have to justify your choice to yourself ... not a bust on you, I mean people in general--me, included ... I catch myself doing it sometimes, too ... it's natural ...
I would agree that having gotten the 'big twin,' it is not a second class citizen compared to the Softail and Touring families; but, undeniably more Spartan and less flashy ... hasn't gotten as much 'marketing' love from the MoCo ... except until recently for the Street Bob with the 'Dark Custom' ad theme ....
Another guy goes "so is that one of the big ones?"
And the guy who knew it was a Dyna goes "yeah, but it's kind of on the low end of the big ones".
I thought about going out there and giving a lesson on the Big Twins and where the Dyna actuallly fits, but I played nice and just stayed at my desk.
