If I still have a job next spring I want to buy a SG Custom. I happened to look at a 2007 sales catalog yesterday which shows the 2007 Custom in black at $14,645 MSRP. The 2009's are at $12,999 (a decrease of $1,646 in two years). Did something change? A price decrease of over 10% is unusual and I'm just wondering if H-D cheapened the bike in some substantial way.
I owned an 05, and now an 09, and I can tell you the 09 is a much better bike than the 05, and yet the 05's list price was higher than the 09's. If they've cheapened the 09Custom verses the 05, I can't see where they did it. I think part of the reason is the MOCO has had to lower the price on Dynas to compete against the pricing of similar size/shape metrics. IMO, since you're not going to buy a bike until next spring, you should shop hard for the next 12 months comparing pre-07 bikes (that's when the 96 engine came on) to 07 & newer bikes, and also see what you like & don't like with the 09's verses the 07's & 08's. An older Dyna is fun. The newer Dynas are just funner !!!
I believe it was most likely a used bike sitting on the showroom floor priced too high. You'd be able to get them to come down on the price of the used bike most likely but not the new. Also there's most likely many upgrades on the used bike as apposed to bone stock new.
I don't agree with any of it just how they do it.
The price of $1,600 cheaper is not due to it being used, this is there actual retail price of these now. I think they lowered the MSRP in 2008.
Love my 2008, no major issues and it seems to be very well built.
Keep in mind while looking Harley went to the 6 speed in 2008 which is really, really nice.
Gotta love the 96" fuel injected motor too but you can go back to 2007 to get that.

08FXDC,
Harley went to the 6 speed cruise-drive transmission in 2007. My 07 FXDC came with it standard.
