The FXDC absolutely did drop over a grand in 2008 and the bike didn't change at all. I remember it well because it pissed me off - so thanks for reminding me. Apparently, it was priced to close to other models to attract enough buyers so they just dropped the price. Basically taking that grand + out of the pockets on resale from those of us that did buy the 07 model. Add that to all the mods and accessories that I'll never get my money back on and I might as well bend over and forget the lube if I ever decide to sell or trade my bike. Fortunately I love my bike and don't have any future plans to get rid of it.
Bottom line, no you aren't missing anything. What you see is exactly what the bikes sold for in 07 and then since then. In my opinion, now they have it priced to low and too close to the FXD standard for me to see why anyone would buy the FXD when you look at the adds you get on the FXDC for the money.
Thanks for the info. It seems that occasionally H-D throws one into the line-up that gets you a pretty good bang for the buck compared to a similar model. The SG Custom for $1000 more than a standard SG is exactly that, IMO. As long as the economy stays flat thru next spring then the price should stay reasonable. In SE Michigan you can get some 2009's OTD for close to MSRP.

I bought mine from Capitol Harley Davidson in Lansing, MI on Jan. 28, 2008.
They were doing MSRP Out the Door on all bikes if you took delivery by the end of the month.
