If the OP is looking to buy a TH, do it. You won't regret it. (but if you do regret it, there is ALWAYS someone out there who will take them off your hands)
i installed a thunderheader recently replacing my short shots with it.Its not as loud at idle but sounds awesome when you get on it. also the bike seems to run alot smoother and more tourqe. the vids on youtube dont do it any justice you have to hear one live to see whats up.
If you ask me , you'd be crazy not to get one.... a black one would look killer on your scoot. Not to mention sound killer and perform. One thing that many running 2-2 don't realize is just how much smoother the 2-1 is. Added torque, smooth running, killer sound, outlaw looks. The thunderheader has it all. (And I have a fatcat).
Having listened to some BR2-1 clips just now, it just isn't anything close to how they really sound. I listened to them in person on a stock 96" motor before I bought them. I would suggest you do the same for the pipes you are interested in
How do you like your BR 2-1? How do you compare them to other 2-1's and is the performamce that much better than 2-2's? I'm taking my time choosing a new exhaust for my bike and I'm trying to keep all options open. I hear great things about thunderheaders but I just don't like the way they look. Anything you can tell me will help. Thanks.
Thanks, I've seen TH's all over in different aplications, from sportsters to ultras and Ron Sims for example uses TH's for most of his custom and production bikes too. It is funny how TH's change their design lines among the HD families (Dynas, Softails, etc.), I've seen some of them poiting upwards and some others not. For softails, at least for '99 and earlier this is the way they were bent, I find the results very slick, adopting the design lines of softails. Mine has the fitting bracket exactly at the level of the passenger's foot peg.
You should browse for your specific aplication or find someone who has 'em on a similar ride. You won't regret it's quality, fitment, and performance... not to mention the sound (I've had 4 different exhaust systems before TH's).

Mimo.
A month ago I was all set on going with a 2-2, but now that I'm learning more I'm leaning toward the 2-1. There's no doubt that I like the looks of a 2-2 better, but performance is important too. I just have to determine how much more performance I'll get, and is it worth giving up a little on looks. I was just looking at the BUB "7" 2-1 and the D&D Fatcat 2-1, and they look pretty good....to my eyes anyway. I'd think that as far as performance goes, BUB and D&D can't be that much different than thunderheader. Is it safe to say I'm right about that?
Almost any 2-1 system will perform better than almost any 2-2...
2-2's loose too much back pressure and even thou they will run smoother at high revs, your kick-out torque will suffer compared to 2-1's which take off more violently, they retain the back pressure in their "Y" geometry disregarding being an open flow system (without muffler).
I have no experience with D&D's or BUB's installed on my ride, I do have experience against V&H (bigshots), Screaming eagle, Samson (cholos) and V&H (big radius).
Back then when I was looking for a 2-1, I was between the accelerator's and the TH's I didn't know th D&D's but I got caught for the TH's sound and looks, I like the megaphone design on the las segment (cone geometry which gives the deep sound) and also the overlapped final tip (cone) for the anti-reverse flow...
Love dem' THeaders! Here's a little crappy cell phone vid. of my buddy riding my bob' for you to get yourself thinking! Perfectly tuned motor thanks to Doc1 of the forums. That guy is the man!
