questions for those with ghost brackets or other quick mounts
i have harleys quick release for my sissy bar for the girly... will ghost brackets still work for bags? i have no idea what they are i have never used them... but i got to figure out a way to mount some bags on there for quick release... thanks!
No they use the same mounting points. You'll have to use one or the other. What I did was use the ghost brackets for the bags that I use ocasionaly and I notched a pair of ridgid side plates for the sissy bar that I almost never use.
you can use easy brackets and hd quick detachable hardware... the easy brackets go outside of the hd detachable hardware... they will stick out a 1/2-3/4 more thought. i have that setup on mine. they stick out a good bit and it has been bothering me lately... since i dont run bags that often, i am thinking about removing the easy bracket hardware and install them when i need em.
Ghost Brackets (now Edge Brackets) has a model for Dynas with detachable sideplates. Numbers below are for 2006 up models, but they have them for older models as well.
GB-HD-DNA06DBK-106 (For Dynas with Harley Davidson detachable backrest installed) GB-HD-DNA06-106 (For Dynas with standard hardmount backrest or no backrest installed)
They also have a $15 kit that allow you to convert their non-detachable sideplates brackets to detachable sideplates brackets. GB-BK-HD-DNA06-DB
that last pic looks about how much they stick out on my bike... but ill post one when im off anyways with a tape measure so you can see how much they stick out.
JRK5892 , hey man here is my idea as I also have rigid bags I don't always want on there! I can't draw it-that would make it easier but- OK one end of the bolt is threaded and the other end is a heax head. what if instead of a hex head there was another set of threads at the opposite end where we could use cap bolts to fasten the bags on. That way 4 cap bolts and their either on or off. And put the cap bolts on as deco when their off! So basically what I'm describeing can be done with an ordinary threaded shaft an exra bolt (thin one) to hold the sissy bar mounting points and a protruding thread with a cap bolt for the bags! Whole thing will cost probably less than 10$. Lemme know what you think!
