Thread resurrect....
Crap in the rain?????? Really.... these pics are rain pics taken of stock tires on my Fat Bob, also some in the dry...... they stick plenty good enough for my riding style...... Attachment 558195
you won't find many pics of Harleys leaned over like this in dry conditions... Attachment 558196 Attachment 558197
the bike is raised 1 inch over stock with slightly upgraded suspension components. Attachment 558198
So don't believe the myth that stock Fat Bob, goofy treaded D427s are crap, they are indeed superb roadholders and longlasting as well.

I know this is an old thread but holy crap...this is the bike I am riding now and there is no way, NO way, I would lean mine like that lol. This thing feels WAY too heavy, coming from sport bikes tho so there is a BIG learning curve. He's riding that thing like I rode my Ninja lol. That being said, since this thread is so old...anyone have any updates on some good tires? I would like something very similar to the stock tires however, I like the look of the big fat tire with the meaty tread pattern.
You never really understand how horrible the stockers are until you swap them out.
I went with the new Avon's, and did the 200 rear, the performance, and especially in rain, is night and day.
Good morning everyone, so I got to looking last night and I lied to you all. I do NOT have the stock tires on here (I don't think). The tires on it are Metzeler Marathon Ultra 888's. The front is MT90B 16 and rear is 18065B 16. So now I see that it has Bias Ply tires, not radials on it. I have to say that they are a little bumpy and I would like some smoother riding tires. I am assuming that it is safe to replace Bias Ply tires with Radials on these bikes? I see a few places where they say they do not recommend changing them, unless I am misunderstanding something.
I saw, I think in this post (I've read a lot so don't remember for sure) that the Avons are available in a sets for front and rear together. Does anyone know where to get these sets? The only place I can find them has the rear but the front is out of stock...

You can run either, both have positives and negatives. I used to run Commander II's and were great for longevity but dicey in the wet.

You'll love Avons.
I don't ride in the wet if I can help it...if it looks like it's going to rain, I'll wait and see lol. I am only in the wet if I get caught in it and it's rare here. I honestly don't ride a lot, I have a messed up back and am disabled. My back pain limits the time I can spend on the bike. Which goes back to the comfort of the ride...a little smoother and I wouldn't complain at all, it's not bad but think it could be better. To be a bit more specific, something sticky, that will provide some miles and won't see much if any wet conditions is what I am looking for.
For you and your riding style I would run Shinko’s...very sticky and cheap, great for someone like yourself....they are not high mileage tires though, which again is great for the miles you will do...
