Both sides on my 05 were black as hell. Smelled not-so-fresh either. I'm glad to have it changed, how often do they suggest you change it? My bike has the drain screws so I have no excuse not to do it on schedule
Hey Buckeye, when you do the next fork oil change install the forkcaps with the screw in the top of the cap. Remove the drain screw, remove the forkcap screw. Drain oil, install drain screw, pour required amount of oil in fork tube thru the cap screw hole then install screw. No floor jacks, no screwing with springs. Badda boom, Badda bing your are done.
