What exactly is the effort involved? Great pix but would you be willing to actually post the steps, in words, that were done to swap them out? Minus the springs - I don't care to "spring" for springs and I really have no problem with my front end the way it is now.
The only tool I had to go buy was a 12mm allen wrench, biggest I had was 10mm. Then also went to the hardware store and bought a piece of 2inch PVC pipe for less than $1 to use to drive the Fork seal in.

I am not good at doing write ups but the service manual walks you though it pretty well. I just skiped a few steps (I didnt remove the tubes from the triple trees).

Few tools listed in service manual you can work around.

Fork holding tool - For this I just left the tubes mounted to the triple tree. To keep them from turning I put a long allen wrench through the fender mount hole. Then put a pipe over the allen wrench and let it push against the other tube so it couldnt turn. This is to break the Seat Pipe Screw loose and reinstall.

Fork seal driver - This is were the PVC pipe comes in. I cut a short enough piece that would fit since the tube was still on the bike. Then I split it in half and wrapped it around the tube to seal the fork.

When you send the write-up to 2007FXD, go ahead and ask him for the rim chroming info. It's too late to stop at this point...
