has anybody ever had a problem with the flange nut hitting the pipe and not going on? on the rear head top bolt on mine i cant get it on its hitting the pipe?
One of the studs on the transmission housing is double nutted, and you have to remove both nuts when you put on the thunderheader bracket. If not, you'll have trouble getting the flanges on. Don't ask me how I know.
I know what you were talking about. If you don't have the bracket on the transmission cover aligned properly, you won't be able to get the flanges over the exhaust studs.
I believe that second nut is part of the stud. There is one just like it above it on the trans cover and the stock exhaust mount is dilled out to go over that nut.
I think you just have to get mean with it. My TH wasnt a picnic to install either and like you, mine wouldnt align in the ex ports perfectly. I just had to work with it.
Dont give up on it though. Its WELL worth it. Just push on the pipe a bit to get it away from that flange stud and be quick to thread on the nut. Sounds like your pipe just isnt seated fully. Not the easiest thing either with new gaskets in there.
That's a good way to do it. Get everything lined up and loose, then tighten it up. The instructions say start at the rear and work up, but plenty start at the heads and work back.
