So my kid (17) has a friend over the other day, they walk in the garage, and the kid says, Dyna? Aw, that's the "Cheap Harley".
I happen to hear this of course, and tried to correct the poor kid on what a REAL Harley is, without child abuse of course.
Then I tried to find out what his dad rode, a "Glide" I'm told. Good to see they are raising thier kids right. After that I decided not to waste my time.
As soon as I read the age, I pretty much disregarded the rest of it.
Hell i thought a dyna was cheap way to get into the big motor and i always liked the bikes but **** with all my mods' and doing them myself i probably got what that kids dad has in his glide in my bike. What ever glide he has. And for all we know he has a dyna and he told the boy i got it cause its cheap lol. But i got 4 kids and i my oldest is 16 and i see this **** all the time cause there are some rich kids in our town and i am not rich so if my boy said it lol he probably would of said my dad has that bike said it was the cheapest one he could afford and still have a big bike lol. But most of his buddies would are raised by the suv money throwing rub's. Heck the one friend of his gets $100 week allowance and got a bmw for his 16 bday. My boy got a $800 mazda mx3 and got to spend the day in the garage with me putting brakes, oil belts and battery in it and going over it but its all good. Most kids say smart *** **** at times and don't think about it.
Prior to my purchase of my SG, I rode a '86 Yamaha Radian...little and fast. Some of my buddies (all Harley riders) convinced me to do the "Toys for Tots" ride in Philly. As we kept stopping to pick up people along the way, we would get off the bikes. I saw a couple of guys looking at my bike parked and didn't know I owned it so they spoke freely to each other in front of me.
The conversation went something like this:
Harley dude #1-- (Pointing at my bike) What the hell type of bike is that?
Harley dude #2-- I don't know, but you don't want to race him.

Generally, the people who refer to it as a "cheap" harley are ignorant of what defines a Dyna in the first place. Lighter weight, better handling, and same powertrain as the softails and baggers.
I had two people ask me yesterday if it was a Night Train (I get that a lot anyway)....I kinda do the mental eye roll, but just correct them that it's a Street Bob...similar idea to a NT, but different family.
In the case of Harleys, price does not necessarily buy performance.
