So I get to the dealership this mornin to finish the paperwork (dropped off the Ducati last night) and seal the deal. Looked over the parts order and they were chargin me over a grand for labor!!!
My friend who does all my bike work was with me and said we can do it ourselves so I declined them doin all the service there. The parts guy said everything would be really easy to do, even the pipes and ecu. Now I live about 4 miles from another Harley place (wanted to charge me $2500 more for my bike) so I can take it to them to program the ecu. The parts guy said its about an hour of labor to do it and should be really easy for em. Other than that hitch, is there anything else I should be wary of workin on this bike? Other than the exhause, stage I, shocks, and computer, everything it just bolt on type things.
I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but my friend works on bikes all the time. The biggest work I did on a bike was a new clutch basket on my 450x whereas he has rebuilt engines. He was very confident that we could easily knock this stuff out, so I guess I am just looking for reassurance that my shiney new 1st Harley is gonna be safe
Understand that grand buys you more than just service work. It buys you warranty as well. Depends on the skill of the HD tech.
Although myself, I'm not so worried about warranty work as I've seen the work most HD techs are capable of... and after 40 years of working on my own bikes and autos, I rate my own work quite a bit above that.
Just remember, there is no one, I repeat no one, that cares as much about getting the job done right as you do. So it pays to do the work yourself
Thanks again guys! I really appreciate the warm welcome and advice
I'll post up some pics as soon as she is ready! They didn't have all the parts in stock so I have to wait a few days until I can get the big stuff done.
