It has been raining the last couple days, so I thought I would start on my forward controls on my Dyna. I decided to do the work myself because I thought the labor costs were a tad steep, plus for what I saved there I bought a chrome inner primary case. Almost have her buttoned up but I am a little concerned over the inner case. I was suprised to see the gasket mating surface was also chromed. I'm thinking it will leak between the primary cover and inner primary case, do any of you guys have this setup and does it leak? I'm thinking of roughing up the surface but won't unless we have some leakers out there. I remember a chrome water neck I had on one of my cars and I could never get it to seal.

I'm footing the extra $$'s to go chrome on the inner primary case. MoCo is picking up the tab to fix my IPB-failure problem the right way, with the '07+ case, tranny cases, etc....thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of the opportunity to add more bike-bling for minimum cash outlay. Just paying the difference between the black and chrome.
Thanks guys for the feedback. I agree if you are going in for that inner bearing might as well get the chrome inner primary, comes with the inner bearing installed and the five fasteners to boot. I wanted the longer shift arm that came in the kit and wasn't willing to take a hacksaw to her to save a little wrenching. All in all the job wasn't bad at all, I have to say that so far the factory Harley repair manual has been really worth its money, very well depicted. People that do this job should buy the gear disassembly tool, a 30mm impact socket and might as well get the 36mm socket for the rear axle nut, neede to adjust the drive belt. The belt did loosen up in the first 1000 miles so glad I checked it while I was there. Forwards are on so going for a ride to see how it shakes out, no leaks.
looks really good, way o keep the bike out of the dealer. If I remember correctly you are in the Harbor? Supposed to have some nice weather this weekend, enjoy the forwards.
Thanks man, yes I'm in G.H. There are some really nice places to ride out in the Peninsula if you want to ride sometime Tweak. Let me know, always up for burning some fossil fuel and killing a few hours.
