The wife got me a chrome inner primary for m 07 FXSTC for my birthday. Now Ive got to put it on. How hard is this to do? What all is involved? Any special tools? Precautions? Ive rebuilt allison automatic transmissions, put lift kits in trucks, done all sorts of other mechanical work, but have never gone inside the primary of a harley. So can I handle this? Any suggestions, recommendations, tips, appreciated.
can't help ya with info on installation. but i have to tell you, i have it on y ride and it makes such a big difference on the bike. you'll love it ....... once you get it on the bike lol
mine is at the stealers right now getting the inner primary changed under warrenty they say they need it for half the day so it must be quite an involved process.
Geez, thought you were just talking about the cover. Just checked it out and that sure looks like alot of work.
Makes the install of the HD garage door opener the wife bought me for Christmas look like walk in the park.
Better drop the $50 for the manual and plan on getting an edumencation on your bike. Which is a good thing.......
Just remember. What one man can do another can do!!. Right tools, manual and a couple of weeks and you should be okay.
Edit: Just checked my manual. Were it me I think I might consider returning or selling that inner primary. If not I'd at least save it for a winter project.

the Inner Primary is a lot of work read the manual close on what you have to remove and be sure you think is worth it ... I would not do it unless ready to service or replace some of the stuff that has to removed .. but is a good way to learn if want to get involved for when the time comes... But a manual is a must and keep a place and reference all parts removed...
picked up the service manual today. this is definitely a project that can be done, but i agree, removing the starter seems to be the biggest PITA. You gotta remove the oil tanks, the starter, a whole host of ****. After that everything seems pretty basic, but getting the primary chain tension adjusted so that it is just right seems like it could be a little tricky. Im gonna see how the wife feels about me returning it and gettting some other goodies. Otherwise Im gonna set aside an upcoming weekend and tackle the job.
