Default New Battery FXDC

Unfortunately, my battery seems to be dying. I didn't get the battery tender hooked up until after it was mostly dead this winter. It sat plugged in all winter and lost it's charge within a few weeks (didn't get to ride much during those few weeks). So, it's looking like I'll need a new battery.

Is there any special battery that you recommend for my FXDC or will any brand battery due? Or, is there a way to breath life back into the battery?

Don't breathe life into it, just replace it. I went with OEM, paid $99 from Latus Harley. Mine will be here tomorrow.

Just spent a few minutes trying to find the name of the company that makes the Harley battery.... can't find it right now, but will save you some bucks.

Maybe someone else will chime in with that Co. name.

I read somewhere to get AGM batteries. Odyssey is the brand they recommended. Does that sound right to you?

Also, is this the name of the company that makes H-D batteries: Motocross by Yuasa? I found it here http://www.batterystuff.com/batterie...TX20HL-BS.html

Buddy of mine just replaced his with one from an auto parts store on his 03 lowrider and it still cost him $97. I'd be interested, as well, in hearing any advice on brands and places to buy to do it cheaper. I've never had a tender on mine and it still seems to be working fine so far. But, with batteries, it's only a matter of time.

I'd also be interested in any comments about how big or little of a pain it is to change the battery in the FXDC. I read an article about something in AIM a few months back where they did something that required removing the battery and they mentioned how it was sort of a pain. Something to do with completely removing the ground cable from the bike side rather than the battery side before pulling the battery so as not to risk it coming into contact with the + cable when trying to remove it?

Plus I don't see it being that much cheaper to buy non-OEM in this case.

BTW, mine is an 05, and the original battery is still going strong, but I'm paranoid and after 4 years, it's time to change

The battery's not that hard to change. It's harder than other sportbikes I've owned, that's for sure, but still not hard. I see no reason to completely remove the ground cable though I'll let you know later today when the new battery arrives.

Actually, I think it was on the 06 and up models that I heard that it was a little harder to change and that a "trick" is to remove the negative cable from the bike before pulling the battery rather than just removing it from the battery.

I think you are thinking of East -Penn (Deka Batteries), basically the same battery as H-D, could be H-D's vendor. Very slight change in battery posts, nothing you can't figure out. Do you have a smart tender, one that goes in to a float mode when the battery is completely charged? Some batt. tenders will continue to charge and cook a battery. Deltran makes a good little charger.

I got a Drag Specialties battery from a local indie shop for $80. I also have the 05 with no battery cover (missing?) and I'm still trying to figure out a way to get the skin off of the original HD battery to use on the outside of the new one. Is there a way to neutralize the contents of the old one so I can go at it with the dremmel?
