I pretty much do the same thing. I don't want to come here and post about how the bike turned into a jungle-gym because I parked it by the front door...

Parking on the stripes or sidewalks may not be illegal but it's rude.
OK so I get the sidewalk issue (pedestrian flow and all), but I don't understand how parking in the stripes could be considered "rude". Maybe I'm missing something.

Depending on the place, I personally usually park in ths stripes, or way back in the lot. the walk gives me time to take off my gloves etc.

In this state the local PD can ticket you for parking in the stripes or no parking areas, even in privately owned areas. These areas usually in the store front are reserved for emergency vehicle access. I understand the thought process to preserve your investment because of the general lack of courtesy in the public these days regarding other peoples property. I usually search around the lot for the perfect spot or avoid large parking lots all together.

Obviously it depends on what type of store or shopping you are going to do. Lets say a 7-11 type store. I will park right in front or as close to the door of the store as I can. In those types of stores I'm only going to be a few minutes anyway and can usually see the bike from inside the store.

Lets say it's a big mall. I will park out and away from most other cars and I will usually park next to a light pole. Or I'll try and find a handicap space and park NEXT to it, not in it. I figure parking next to a handicap space, it's probably not going to get much traffic in and out of that spot. And I park in the very center of the space, leaving as much room away from the line as possible.

I see nothing wrong with parking in the diag lined spaces at the end (or beginning) of each row. It's not like it's blocking anyone. That area is too small for a full size car but just right for a motorcycle and I've never had an issue parking on one of these spaces.

I never park on the sidewalk which blockes people walking, which can also bring attention to the bike. I don't want anyone to notice it while it's parked, if possible.

+1

It just seems kinda pompous to me, "I have a bike so i can park on the side walk" is as annoying as "I have a maserati so I park across 3 spaces."

I just try and find a space that is away from the cages, I have no problem walking a little further.

Wow, ur bike got knocked over?!?!

Don't think anyone got the ***** to do that in the SFbay area.
So I never worry about that.

If there are no MC spots, i take a full parking space nobody says nothing about it.

If no spots, yeah those side spots with diagonal lines on it, or the side walk...
Depending on area, I think they would still give you a ticket in SF if your on the sidewalk?
but I'm in the south bay, so pretty much whereever is good.

I usually park in a regular space kinda in the middle or look for motorcycle spaces which some of the shopping centers have around here. If not i'll park on the sidewalk sometimes but close against the building so that i'm not blocking anybody. I've parked next to the bike rack a few times, not at it but right next to it, hey it's a bike right?.

+1 on the above and if nothing available I will go to another shopping center it worth the ride anyway,
