I ride an 06 S/B, and the shocks are starting to bottom out. They are the stock ones from the purchase of the bike in 06. I am retiring after 31 yrs. as a cop and will be living on a fixed income and looking for the best deal for the buck as all of us are. I would like a set that are adjustable. They appear not to difficult to change , if so I can take it to a local shop and have them put on. Hope to hear from persons that have done there own mods. for help.
I got the ones on my bike at HD for 25% off at one of the sale they have all the time. Think they were something like 340 out the door. I do like them and put the ones that came of the bike on my wife’s 06 Dyna. If all you are looking for is function and price I bet you could get some new used ones for a song from one of the good people here. Supper easy to put on.
Could you clarify what you're looking for? All shocks are adjustable, just depends on how many adjustments you want, which will dictate price. Ohlin shocks have rebound and dampening adjustments and they run $400+ per set. Progressive 412's are in the $200 range per set. You could scan ebay for a set of stock shocks if thats what you like. May find a deal.
Is it time for new shocks or time for a diet? hahaha
I got my Progressive 412 Heavy Duties from eastern performance for under $200 shipped. I'm very happy with them for the price. They look and perform better than stock. There are better shocks out there but they will cost you more.
Have you tried adjusting them? Maybe you need more pre-load.
All shocks from the $2,000/each top of the line shock or the worst POS aftermarket type from China. Typically you get between 8K mi ~ 30 K miles before rebuilding for street use. Off road use are only one race.
My point is that it probably is wore out if you have a stock shock and can not rebuild it as it does not come apart. If you have a shock that does come apart than you can rebuild it. Good luck with your retirement.
Although the stock shocks are not the best quality unless you have lots of miles on them they should,nt be worn out, i,d assume they are not leaking any oil. If all looks ok check which setting they are on by looking up into them at the bottom. I bet they are on a low or lowest of the 5 positions, if so adjust them up to 3,4 or 5 whichever you prefer. You will probably need an shock adjuster although it is possible to move them by hand.
