Wiring problem after bars are installed...need advice.
Hey everyone,
I have a '09 Fatbob that I had a set of 14" wild1's put on by the local Indy. On the way home I notice anytime I engaged the brake that the right turn signal came on. I took the bike back and it has sat there for a week without them touching it. They said it will be next week at the earliest until they can look at it. Is it possible that there is something in the switch housing that is causing this problem that would be an easy fix? I hate to have the bike up there for at least another week. It doesn't matter if I touch the front or the rear brake .....they both make the right turn signal engage. Any advice is appreciated.
They definitely transposed some wires when they disassembled the connectors that lie in the backbone, underneath the tank. That's bad customer service either way. A) they stated, by giving your bike back to you, the job is correct and complete B) are putting it on the backburner while they work on other bikes. They screwed it up and should man up and fix it pronto especially because they've been paid for a completed and correct workorder.
yes the right turn signal comes on when you engage either the hand or foot brake. If I hit it second time then the turn signal stops. My brake light works anytime I hit the hand/foot brake as well. thnx.
Dam, sounds like you handled that alot better than i would have. About the time they said that I would need to wait, well that is when I would begin the process of working my way to jail, if ya know what I mean. That is just BS! I F#&^ING hate it when they pull this kind of schipt. It usually is to someone who has no way of doing the work themselves, so if there is a problem they make them wait until they are ready to re-do it!
Sorry about going off here. I just had a friend who took her bike in for some work at the indy, came out all screwed up and they told her it would a week or two till they could fix it. So me and buddy on our time, fixed thier screw up for her so she could go ride. I just can not stand this sort of thing. What ever happened to that little thing called CUSTOMER SERVICE?!?!
Again, sorry, I am done.
the longer I wait the less forgiving I am. If it is likely in the switch housing then I'll probably just pick it up and try to fix it myself. I was planning on using this place for some motor work and a springer front end this fall but now I am thinking I'll have to find another place.
Lee, if I remember when doing my handlebar swap, you can't really take the controls apart like that. Where you do take the wiring apart is underneath your tank. A couple of connectors. PITA in my book. Didn't enjoy that part of the job at all. Unless your dresser has different controls than my dyna, I'd inspect the connectors in the backbone. Having not owned a dresser, I could be wrong.
when you do that springer i would be intrested in your stock forks! i want duel rotors!!!
i would guess they just swaped the wires...easy fix simple mistake... you figure they woudl have checked it all out though before giving you the scoot!
Joe, you're right. Simple mistake. I know I swapped a wire or two when I did mine but the fact that the gentleman had to be quality control for this indy is a bit sad. We're paying to have a job done, and done correctly. If I want half-assed I would save the cash and do it myself. Ha ha ha
JRK.....maybe we can work something out this fall. I definitely want a springer on my bike. I'm gonna try to be patient especially since I have my Ultra at home to ride but damn it's just frustrating not to have it back together. I guess if by the middle of next week the bike isn't ready that I'll have to go get it.
