Ive got about 1500 miles to in til 20,000 mile service. Do you think i can make it til then? Do you think it will cause any damage or just be incredibly annoying with the CLANK i get on every little bump. I guess what i am trying to say is that i could have bought a brand new bike with the amount of money the harley shop charged me for all the scheduled maintenance visits. I have had my bob for 2.5 years and its still stock cause by the i save any money for mods, guess what? its time for a service.
Don't be afraid to get a service manual and turn your own wrench. There are a lot of people here willing to help you out with anything you want to do.
+1. Get some tools, a service manual, and do this stuff yourself. I've done everything on my bike. Otherwise I would have easily spent $4-5k+ in maintenance and add-ons, easily.
Changing out the front motor mount was a breeze. Took me and my old man no more then 40 minutes, and that was only because we've never done it before. If I did it again, it'd take me 15-20 minutes. I just replaced mine, and it rides like new now. I LOVE it.
When you do your oil change, if you will take a punch and make 2 dents in the end of the oil filter(1 top and 1 bottom) then drill holes in the dents. It will eliminate the oil on the motor mount. Just don't be in a big hurry as it has to drain. Also using one of those cheap flexible cutting boards you can direct it into a drain pan. I bought one package of cutting boards (3) and cut each one into three pieces. I'm still using the first piece 2 years later.
