i will never use 75/90 again! ever... i was at 75/140 before and had a quart of the 75/90 in the shop so i used it... never again... it shifts like a shift car! i hate it
Damn you guys! I am really confused now. So, this is what I am trying to achieve here. I want that damn clunk to be quieted down and the shifting to be a lot smoother. is is 75/90 or 75/140?
i used mobil 1 75/90 prior to readline shock proof... i think that the mobile was 1000000x's smoother!

Hey Joe - I'm confused. Did you mean 75/140 in your first post? I have 75/90 in there now, but will switch to Mobil1 75/140 the next go around.
I thought primary oil was in the primary case and engine oil is in the oil tank. Why do you have to use the same oil in both?
If I want to run Mobil 1 20W-50 syn in my engine, what should I use in my primary?
Trust me you're not the only one struggling with that. I am doing my 5K this weekend and have changed my mind several times. Currently going with Mobile 1 75w90 in the primary and following Joe's lead with the 75w140 in the tranny. I found loads of information here on the fourm but had to do some major reading. Suggest that you have a look at the info available in the HD Knowledgebase, see https://www.hdforums.com/kbase/primary-oil.html
One thing I found was that the gear oils and motor oil viscositys are not rated the same, ex: 20w50 motor oil is about the same thickness as 75w90 gear oil, read through the poll which primary oil everyone is using, there is a chart several pages in. Sorry I couldn't copy it here, too big to transfer.
