I took my bike in today for a oil change at the dealer. they told me the case is leaking on the top and the bottom just a little and it would be 14 hr labor its out of warranty by one month bike has 2200 miles on it has anyone had this problem
the dealer told me to just buy a extended warranty for 1500 for three years
any one heard of this
I just went thru the same basic thing,
just bought the bike, had 1 month of warranty left, took it in to get forward controls on and the tech noted a lower base gasket leak on the rear cylinder and recommended it be replaced. They had me bring it back, (under warranty, now expired) and this time said they called Harley and they were told it was to low of miles to leak (2800), so theybrake cleaned it off good and am assuming they just tightened something up and sent me down the road.
As far as the warranty I could have bought the same, for $1200 for 3 years, with a $50 per occurance deductable. I figured I would take my chances.
yes they said its just starting to leak looks like its just sweats
Clean it off with some simple green and rinse with warm water. See if it leaks again. Lots of engine cases weep a small amount of oil at the seals and never develop into a leak. My rule is this: If it is not dripping on the ground...it aint leaking.
BTW, since they offered to sell you an extended warranty...take the bike to another dealer or indy and get a second opinion.
