I have an 03 FXDX that is making a "knocking" sound when started, idle and in gear. I cannot tell exactly where the sound is coming from. I have checked all the bolts and screws and nothing feels loose. I have the right amount of fluids as well. Any suggestions and or fixes? Thanks.

Do any work on it lately? Hard riding?

 

Also make sure you use premium gas...

 

What is the mileage and history of the bike? This would help...

 

I have done no mods, do not ride it hard. The mileage is almost 2800. I don't use the premium, I use the next one down.

 

May not apply here but during the 105th I had a "rattle" type noise coming from the engine. I could of sworn it was a primary noise so I took the inspection cover off and checked the obvious, tension or loose bolts, nothing. Low and behold it was those damn head bridge covers right by the spark plug. One of the set screws worked itself loose, crisis adverted.
