Hey guys, after some advice on changing my rocker covers on my 07 Streetbob to chrome. I have a manual but there isn't a section on just changing them as such, just a lead in to doing a topend service. Is it as easy as undoing the bolts and removing the upper and lower covers and replacing them or do you have to undo the breather bolt and rocker arm plate bolts ect.
Also I can get a set of covers from bkrider on ebay for $179 for the 4 of them which seems cheap as Chicargo Harley sells them for about $80 each. All help appreciated.
Just follow the procedure for the top end service, and stop when you get the bottom cover off. I can't remember exactly without looking at the book, but I think you do have to remove the rocker arm plate to get to the bottom cover screws.
As far as eBay goes, sometimes you just find things cheaper there. But always read the item description very carefully!
have you guys seen the new rocker box wrenchs HD is selling now (upper wrench and lower wrench)? would it be a good idea to pick those up for a rocker box swap, or can it be done with standard wrenchs and other tools???
It is tight quarters under the backbone of the frome and standard wrenches are tough to get in there. You may also consider a good set of dogbones for the torque wrench because the torque wrench does not fit in ther either without them.
I just changed my top covers out and used HD's new wrench. Very helpful, but there are solutions posted here I'm sure work well. The dog bone for your torque is essential.
Very easy job with the manual. But you need the dog bones for the torque wrench. Proto were alot cheaper the the snap-on ones the manual calls out . I needed the 1/2" and the 7/16" for my FATBOB.
