If you keep the stock heads and just do cams and intake and exhaust how much rear wheel power can be expected ??? Starting to make a list for winter mods.........................

Have a friend that tried that exercise; believe he got close to 90HP. Head-Quarters has a couple of 90+ hp dyno's using their 0034 cams with stock head 88 inch motors. Quite a bit of HP left on the table without "opening up" the top end. Stock 40CV is adequate with re-jetting.

Mines at 74hp 80tq with cams/V&H BSS/Intake/PC3 custom tune. Less than I had expected. Perhaps the cams werent all that.

Default that

Is why im asking cause dont want it too radical but would like more top end and mid range but not give up any torque down low....... ride two up alot and the power is adequate now but would like more if its reliable and no heat issues associated with these type of mods......... I know plenty about what cams and profiles to run in cars but not real sure on Hd's and air cooled so it makes things a little different.................tim

Depends on the pipes too. A good two into one like a Thunderheader, less restrictive intake and dyno tuning can get you more power than some dual exhaust systems can with a cam.

I can only speak from my experience. My old 88 had a Mikuni 42mm, Crane Hi4, SE 211 cams, and a TH. It made 86HP/89TQ. The bike was fast, but TQ down low was almost non-existant. If I had another 88 I'd do the same set up but with TQ cams. What good is high HP if it's at 6000rpm where you don't ride? Max TQ is where it's at for me now.
