Default Bagger air shocks question

I know that some of you have the bagger rear shocks and I have a few questions. (1) What is the max air I can run in them? (2) What weight oil is in them and how much? I have about 15 pounds in mine and its real bouncy on bumps I dont want to use to much air and blow the seals out. So if i drain out the oil and put a higher weight oil in will that make it better?

The stock oil is 5wt and max pressure on the 13" shock is 35psi. I read articles where guys have put 10wt oil in them.

Recommended air pressures
0-10 lbs for a 150-lb to 200-lb rider.
5-15 lbs for a 200-lb to 250-lb rider.
20-25 lbs for a rider with passenger.
FL air preload rear suspension range is 0-35 lbs of pressure. (13")
FLHRS and FLXH low-profile shocks are 0-50 lbs max. (12")

A dyna shock geometry is different from a touring bike. On the dyna's the shocks are further in on the swingarm and angled. Touring shocks probably don't have the stiffness or damping needed.

I believe you are correct in your assumption, I have a set of 12.5 " air shocks off an FLH and while the are perfect for a single rider, while riding 2up i scrape the crap out of my exhaust on steep right turns or when leaving the road and turning up hill...wish i could fix that...then the would be perfect

100% correct! I have tried two sets of air shocks on my bike, one being off a Street glide from HD, and another being the heavy duty aftermarket set with a higher spring rate, and both would require at least 25lbs pressure to make them usable. I loved the ride, but really wouldn't want to rely on air pressure containment to suspend the rear of my bike. If you spring a leak, you would be sunk (literally speaking) and really up ***** creek if you were two up.

It was my understanding that max pressure is related to which version you have, not whether they are low profile versions or not. For the 2009 and later shocks (54565-09 or 54635-09) you can run up to 50psi, however looking at the low profile shocks for 97-08 baggers they also can run up to 50psi so best to check the instructions for your shocks.

That said I have the 13" (54565-09) version and I think they work well both solo or 2 up - I did drag some things on the cheap china copies that probably had no oil but the added height on these has worked well for me, nothing drags until the pegs touch in corners. Solo I can run 10-15psi but usually I leave them around 25psi - for 2up I up the pressure to 35psi and oddly enough there isn't a noticeably degraded ride when running any of those figures solo. Good shocks for the money.
