Default changing shock oil

Decided to change out the shock oil on my 06 street glide.Follwed what others have said. Took shocks off and using a pumping motion got all the oil out.13 ozs. in one side and 12 ozs. in the other side
Replaced with 10 ozs. of 10 wt. amsoil shock therapy.Used a funnel ,hose and connector to gravity feed in the oil.Put the shocks back on and went for a 70 mile ride with the wife. Bike rode good. very firm over bumps. No up and down several times like before but just up and down once.Had 15 lbs. of air in them.I will leave it like this for a while and see how they do.I think that 7-1/2 wt oil would be perfect also.

I did the shocks on my 2010 RK over a year ago using the Amsoil shock therapy 10 wt. I use about 5 lbs of air riding solo. Ride is firm, but I like it! My only other vehicle is a F250 Super Duty so I'm used to a firm ride.

Are you guys sure your "firm" ride isn't because you're running such a low amount of air pressure in your shocks. The Air Pressure represents your pre-load and typically you should be running around 40lbs solo and 50lbs 2up. With such a low amount of air you could actually be bottoming your shocks and that's whats feeling "firm" to you.

I'm not an expert, but I know I'm not bottoming out. I like the firmness! it's not too firm for me. I was bottoming out before I changed the oil and I was using as much as 40 PSI trying to stop the bottoming. I weigh 215.

First, the '06 SG 12" shock max pressure is 40, not like your '11 Ultra. different valving between those model years also. Second, they aren't running the original 5wt, they are running 10wt, which slows damping and allows you to run less air pressure.
