Getting a new set of bars in flat black, looking at coating my trees in the same color. I've read through the manual, and it seems pretty straight forward, but I was wondering about removing the 'cups' If I just want to remove the trees, get them coated, and slap em back in, do I need to mess with replacing the bearings as the manual explains? do I even need to remove the cups or bearings? also, am I right in assuming that the cups are also known as races, so if I dont need to remove them I need not be concerned about adjusting them right?
lotsa questions, sorry, just wanna make sure I'm getting this right!
I removed my wheel, brakes, fender, then the tubes, one at a time. I also used greased (thin film) on the tubes to help prevent marks and scratching. Remove the stem nut and pull the trees. You will probably need to separate the bearing from the trees (stem) for powder coating. No need to mess with the cups. They will remain in the neck.
Proper specs on the assembly is important when you put it back together. Not sure what bike you are working with, but make sure you have the new version hardened stem head washer and torque it to 70 - 80 ft./lbs. Do a fall away test once completed.
