It is a bad feeling when your working and a co worker comes in and tell you he just backed into your bike and it is laying on its side in the parking lot.
This happened about 10 pm tonight and I thought I was going to be sick, I was in a meeting and could not leave for 20 minutes. You can only imagine what was going through my head, I did not know weather his car was parked on top of it or what. Well when I got to check on it it was laying on the right side fuel leaking out of the tank. Much to my surprise it was resting on the hard leather bag at rear and the front foot peg. The right mirror was scratched and the front brake lever is broken off at the ball end. The bag has some scrapes on it but the tank did not touch the ground. Foot brake forward control is bent a little at the top. pipes are fine no scratches, I let it sit for about 45 minutes to get all of the oil back down and she fired rite up no smoke or missing.
My big concern was the front wheel but there was not visible sign of impact so I rode it home 30 miles and no problems. He did appologize and offered to replace any damaged parts.
Damn man....I would of been so Pi$$$$$ed I could not of stayed in the meeting at all. I have to say you are very lucky that he told you instead of hitting and running as happens all to often with bikes.
Take it to the insurance adjuster and see what they say to do. Then tell the guy who knocked it over and see if he comes to terms with ya. From waht it sounds like he will as he knows he is at fault. Glad to hear it is rideable but I think I would change out my fluids after that.
Sorry to hear about that, but glad to hear the guy told you about it right away. I can't believe you were able to stay in the meeting... I don't think I could have!

Toughest 20 minutes of your life, I bet. Sorry to hear, but glad it wasn't any worse. Gotta respect the coworker for coming to you. Hope he comes through for you with the repairs. If it turns out to be E-Z fixes and no drama, it'll end up being just a minor blip on your memory's radar screen. I often think twice (3, 4, 5X...) when I park and am gonna be out of sight of the bike for any length of time. Sometimes I get "creative" with parking spaces (and sidewalks, paths, etc.) in hopes of lessening my chances of coming out and finding my bike on its side. Better luck ahead.
I was at a Home Depot on day and had a guy walk up to me and ask "Hey, is that your Harley in the parking lot?"
Me: "Yep"
Him: "some guy just backed into it and took off, I got his plate # and a description of the truck"
I thanked him and called the law. They had the guy that hit and ran in less than 5 minutes, caught him at his house.
He had an "international" Driver's license, it wasn't his truck and it was a 3rd party that was carrying the insurance. The driver didn't habla English either.
I called Progressive (mine) and they contacted the other company on my behalf. Got everything taken care of and only lost a couple riding days.
I called the witness back and thanked him, thanked the cops for getting the guy so quick and was done with it.
My wife and I walked around the corner of a Kmart building to see some old lady grab something off the windshield of our van, then get in a car and drive off. We thought maybe she took a flyer that show up magicaly as you are shopping in a store. Down the street eating at a fast food place, I look out the window and the rear bumper is jacked up. Open the drivers door and there is a business card on the floor with a note on the back. A witness took the time to put a note on the windshield and slide a card in the window. Redlands PD went to the ladys home and she paid for the repairs.
