Default How accurate are these speedometers?

I know a lot of bikes have "optimistic" speedometers, like they say you're doing 100 mph and you're actually doing 93 mph or so. How about the late-model big twin Harleys? Anyone do any GPS verification on how accurate these speedometers are? Thanks in advance for feedback.

Isn't there some law where they have to respect certain norms?however if it says 66 and your going 62 you might avoid a ticket and some demerit points! if it says 62 and your going 68 yikes BIG$$$

Travis, my Fat Bob speedo indicates exactly on with my GPS up to where I have checked it at 115 mph. Got a ticket a few months ago for 79 mph and that is exactly what my speedo was reading just B4 I got radared.

From everything I've witnessed and read, H-D speedos are quite accurate...not so much with many other brands.

Generally the reading is within 1 or 2 MPH, the accuracy can change depending on a number of things, the main one being the tires, with new tires the tread depth is approximately 3/8", on a worn tire it is less than 1/8" the outside diameter therefore changes and so does the distance traveled per revolution of the wheel, this can change the reading up to 2%, Just my 2 cent worth,

Mine showed 3 mph faster than what I was actually going. I fixed it with the TTS Mastertune. Spot-on now.

Very interesting... I've had mine read up to 115 mph and could tell the bike still had a little left in it... And I had my Warrior reading up to 132 mph but I know that speedometer reads high... so I was probably only doing slightly over 120 mph on the Warrior and it was hitting the rev limiter in top gear so it would NOT go any faster. You know what I'm thinking, don't you?
