Just purchased 05 Super Glide...dumb question!

Just purchased 05 Super Glide...dumb question!
Brought home a used 05 Super Glide yesterday. When the key is in the on position (engine off) the oil lamp light and engine light is illuminated. Is this normal? As soon as I start the engine, they go off. Once I shut it off, them come back on. This is my first bike and first HD, so I am totally new to this. Thanks for the help and I look forward to learning from all your experience!

word... It's just a test cycle to make sure the dummy lights are working, just like in a car.
BTW, I think smarter machines make dumber operators. Just cause one of those lights isn't on, doesn't mean something's wrong. Get urself into the habit of checking the oil on a regular basis as well as cables, breaks, and other potential fail items.
