We just can't sustain that kind of speed here in north america and the detachable hd W/S won't cut it either it's fine mind you at 80,which even that is dangerous here you could loose your license in a heartbeat. Perhaps some fairings would help you out.they wouldn't look the greatest on a dyna but could help you be more functional with your group and habits.
Wish I had a six speed too.....but on our "quiet" roads up here a steady 80+ for a while has the motor revving more than I like. Stable at 100, though.
I got stuck behind a tractor . Hit 105 for about 1 mile to catch up. Bike was solid. Wife just said glad we had the 103 to catch up Quick! but then it was back down to 60.
Blasphemy, I know...but if that's your normal kind of riding, you need to look at a BMW K1300 GT. On my K12S, 100 feels like 60 on most bikes. Smooth, stable....right in the comfort zone. The HD just isn't engineered for that kind of use.
Or a Kawi Concourse 14....it's built for high speed highway cruisin'.
I ride with a group of guys and heres what we have
mine 08 Fatbob
09 Streetbob
08 1000 GSXR
07 1200 Sportster
and a few bikes that top out at 90
Well we tend to ride steady around 80ish but we constantly hit 100+ I mean come on one of our buddies has a crotch rocket we cant help but have fun with it... But without the windshields we usually hit speeds of 125+ and our buddies just catch up when we slow back down....
without admitting any illegal doing on my part, on the couple handful of times I've crossed triple digits for any real distance on mine, it seemed to like the speed better than 60's, (hypotheticaly speaking) but a six speed would be nice to bring the rpm's down. maybe a windshield too
When my club travels we are in a pack, 2 abreast with 3-6 feet between bikes and we cruise at 80-90mph with speeds over 100 when passing. Never any problems.
